A gift for the wonderful J-Dog, his own superhero persona.  Accompanied by the best sidekick, clearly.  Completed in promarkers.

Some images of my recent work waiting to be sold.  A mixture of black ink on wet paper with gold metallic centers.

A couple of images from a work in progress (all my work seems to be work in progress!)  A clay sculpture with a hollow center, much better for firing.  Glazing is the next step.  To be continued...

An illustration from an ongoing (very ongoing), self initiated project based on the story of the Lion, the Fox and the Horse.  Just getting some basic ideas and character design down first.

These are some drawings I did whilst away in Spain last year.  I was given some gorgeous felt pens, so put them to good use.
I loved the fact that the moon was so amazing when we were there, I had to draw it.

So I've taken up needle felting.  Well, felting in general.  It's taken a while to get the knack, but I'm finally getting some good results!  These are just some little experiments.  I've got some completed whales somewhere, and I'm planning a batch of British Garden Birds.  Photos to follow shortly.  These can be made to commission and posted, so let me know if you'd like your very own felt animal!

PGCE final piece

Final piece from my PGCE course.  I focused on looking at the Isle of Lewis, where some of my family live.  I wanted to capture the wonderful rich colours of the sea and the sand (on a good day of course,) and therefore used both watercolour and wet felting to create the idea beautiful sunny days with the opposite of stormy, dark days.

Illustrations for a project on the Inuit culture.  Watercolour on paper, with photos taken by Douglas.

A mono-printing session using found objects and mixed media.  The whales still manage to make it into my work!

Some of the first successful charcoal drawings I've made.  These were part of a PGCE workshop, and show strange natural objects such as seed pods.

Some sketches in black marker made at the British Museum of the Horse Head of Selene.
Always had a bit of a thing for Mucha, and the Art Nouveau movement.  Kept in pen and ink for now, colour to come perhaps later when they are printed as cards.

A one off project that looked into 'interior spaces.'  I decided to take it into the interior as the exterior.  A very interesting use of paint, and thanks to Sarah, my canvas.

Some postcards I've printed. A little selection of houses and mushrooms.

A few paintings I've been doing for children. I mount them up, so they can be given as gifts for birthdays, christenings, dedications etc. These can also be personalised and start at about £30. Please contact me if you're interested.

Some completed final images for my 3rd year Degree project. Over the last 15 weeks, I have found the whale such a fascinating creature. My final piece has taken the form of a large framed wall piece, with one whale representing 300 in real life, reflecting the actual numbers of whale species left. There are 1,003 whales on the final 1.5 metre by 2.5 metre work!

A series of images from my ongoing project about the whale. Playing with scale is key here, so I am playing around with the idea of complete opposite sizes. The top images are 10cm x 6cm.

An image from my promotional book 'The Smelly Mackerel.' It's a investigative book on the mackerel, only 8 pages long. Short and sweet. (or smelly...)

Friday 18 March 2011

This is the beginning of my work for my Final Major Project. It will be based on animal anatomy. This is just some early work, researching into styles.
The lioness is attracted to males with darker manes apparently, and their shoulder muscle in unattached to the shoulder, allowing huge leg movement. Just some facts!

A commission I did for a couple through Flora Lou, the shop in Chobham where I sell my work. This was my first attempt at a homemade canvas, which was a success. It was a really enjoyable piece to work on.

When it comes to letters, I love making them look pretty. This is one I sent to a friend a while back.
